The Ambassador of Kosovo to Germany, Faruk Ajeti, has announced that compatriots who have so far been registered in German cities as citizens of Serbia can change this. Ambassador Ajeti, in a video message, emphasized that the immigrants should address the competent German authorities and request, as he said, that the citizenship of Serbia be removed from the citizenship category once and for all, KosovaPress reports. Ambassador Faruk Ajeti emphasizes that this change comes from a circular from the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany. “Honorable compatriots, for more than 17 years, hundreds of thousands of citizens of the Republic of Kosovo have been automatically registered in various German municipalities, unfairly and wrongly, and as citizens of Serbia. Now I have the special pleasure to inform you that as a result of our work and diplomatic engagement, this unresolved and inherited problem for years, from today onwards will come to an end. In the wake of our continuous efforts and numerous communications with German institutions, namely the Federal Chancellor, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Justice, we have requested that Kosovo citizens be registered only as its citizens and in no way be identified as Serbian citizens. Not only 16 German cases, but also over 5 civil registration centers throughout Germany have already received a circular from the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany informing them of this important change for Kosovo citizens”, Ambassador Ajeti emphasized through a video message published on Facebook, KosovaPress reports. Ambassador Ajeti invited Kosovo citizens who are affected by this phenomenon to contact German institutions or the Kosovo embassy in Germany. “From now on, they will only be registered as citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. Consequently, we call on all our citizens residing in Germany and who are affected by this phenomenon to contact the competent German authorities in the city or town where they live to correct their documentation. What should you do? You should request that the citizenship of Serbia be removed once and for all from the citizenship category of the relevant documentation. For additional information, we ask Kosovo citizens to contact our Embassy in Berlin or the nearest consular mission in Germany. Expressing deep regret for this problem inherited from 200 and which has affected many of you, we thank the friendly German state for eliminating this important problem for our state identity”, emphasized Ambassador Ajeti, KosovaPress reports. This step marks an important achievement for Kosovo citizens in Germany, ensuring fair treatment and full recognition of Kosovo citizenship.
